Shopify is an e-commerce platform that allows brands and creators set up online stores and sell their products across the internet. However, the Canadian company is now venturing into retail business by helping celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Eminem set up physical stores in the United States.
Shopify helped American rapper Eminem set up his Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant is the New York City to mark 20 years of his semi-autobiographical movie “8 Mile”. On Thursday, Shopify President Harley Finkelstein announced that Shopify helped American media personality Kim Kardashian set up a brick-and-mortar store for her skincare brand SKKN.
“Physical retail is coming back – and Shopify is powering it. Kim Kardashian’s first ever SKKN pop-up in LA opened today, powered by Shopify POS. We aren’t just the ecommerce company – we are the retail everywhere company,” Finkelstein tweeted.

In another tweet, the Shopify President shared a video posted by Kardashian on her Instagram stories. To attract more customers, Kardashian had announced yesterday that she would visit the store and those interested in a meet up can join her at the Los Angeles pop-up.
“Who’s going to the SKKN pop up today??? I’ll see you there,” she tweeted.

What’s In Kim Kardashian’s Store?
SKKN sells nine skincare products, personally endorsed by Kardashian — Cleanser, Toner, Exfoliator, Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Vitamin C8 Serum, Eye Cream, Face Cream, Oil Drops and Night Oil.
“Sitting at the intersection of elevated simplicity and innovative science, SKKN BY KIM’s nine-product ritual was born out of Kim’s dream to bridge the gap between the world’s most renowned dermatological experts and people at home seeking high-quality skincare,” the website states, explaining Kim’s nine-product ritual.
Simplicity
SKKN claims to use clean ingredients and technical formulas to make all its products. These solutions are expertly crafted by the model herself. The products assure “rejuvenation and nourishment for all skin types, tones, textures, and stages of maturity”.
Sustainability
Kardashian is also aware about sustainability and thus, her products at SKNN come in refillable bottles and jars. “To further reduce our environmental impact, Refills are packaged inside recycled materials and delivered to you inside compostable kraft bags” the website adds.
Skin Friendly
All products sold on SKNN are skin friendly as they are inspired from Kardashian’s self-discovery after being diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin disease. “Fueled by years of gathered insights from global skincare specialists, SKKN BY KIM’s science-backed formulas work together to reactivate skin’s inner potential,” the website states.
Why Is Kim Kardashian Selling Skincare Products?
In 2005, Kardashian had her first psoriasis flare-up. “When I was 25, I had my first psoriasis flare-up. I got a common cold, and since psoriasis is an autoimmune condition, this triggered it. It was all over my stomach and legs. Luckily, in my apartment complex at the time, my neighbor was a dermatologist. I showed it to him, and he said to come into the office and he would give me a shot of cortisone and then hopefully it would go away (since it was my first big outbreak). I did this and my psoriasis completely went away for about five years,” she wrote on her sister Kourtney’s blog website Poosh.
“I’ve become extremely comfortable with my psoriasis. No matter where it is on my body, sometimes I am fine with showing it off and other times I don’t want it to be a distraction, so I cover it up with body makeup,” she added, encouraging her readers to avoid stress if they are diagnosed with the same disease.
Shopify’s Support
Kardashian is not the only celebrity with her store powered by Shopify. Eminem and his manager manager Paul Rosenberg also have a joint venture by the name ‘Mom’s Spaghetti’. It is a restaurant based in Detroit with its name inspired by Eminem’s iconic single “Lose Yourself”. The song was written for his movie “8 Mile” which was released on November 8, 2002. 8 Mile is a story about Eminem’s early days as a struggling artist in Detroit. The song sold over 10 million copies and Eminem earned two Grammys in 2004 along with an Oscar.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of 8 Mile, Eminem’s pop-up spot was organised by Shopify in SoHo. The pop-up has also brought Eminem’s limited-edition merchandise. Apparel celebrating the movie and several vinyl records will also be available. The retail space will remain open from Wednesday to Sunday. Those interested can visit the space from 2 to 8 pm on Wednesday and Thursday and 2 to 9 pm on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, it will be open from 11 am to 8 pm.
This is for the first time Mom’s Spaghetti has come to New York City. Held at Shopify’s New York storefront, the e-commerce giant will also power the sales of food and merchandise.
How To Visit Eminem’s Pop-up?
Entry is free of cost; however, RSVPs are required. Walk ups are also welcomed but have to wait in an extra queue for free/available RSVP-entry slots. Tickets can be booked at spacesnyc.myshopify.com. Items available on menu are spaghetti, spaghetti with meat balls and spaghetti with rabbit balls (vegan). Fans can enjoy the food amidst the set-up inspired by the film.
