Shopify rolled out Tap to Pay on iPhone, a payment acceptance capability on Tuesday, November 8. Sharing a short video on Twitter on its official Twitter account, Shopify Support wrote, “everything you need to sell IRL is already in your pocket introducing Tap to Pay on iPhone with Shopify POS”.

Through Tap to Pay on iPhone, merchants can accept contactless payments without any hassle. It only requires Shopify POS app for iOS and an iPhone. Businesses on Shopify POS can directly get payment on iPhone.

Usually for selling in-person, a card reader becomes important so that payments can be processed. Tap to Pay on iPhone will make selling products at local fairs, events, markets and festivals much easier than before as merchants won’t require any additional hardware. The feature is currently available only in the United States.

How to Activate Tap to Pay on iPhone for Shopify POS

Only store owner can activate Tap to Pay on iPhone for the store. Merchants need to accept terms of service with Apple ID, belonging to the owner or the business, to set up Tap to Pay on iPhone for the first time. One can change the Apple ID later.

After the activation is done, Tap to Pay on iPhone is ready to be paired with any iPhone logged into POS under store’s account.

If the store owner wants to remove Tap to Pay on iPhone, then one can unpair it. Unpairing doesn’t lead to its deactivation for the store. Merchants can also change Apple ID or disconnect Tap to Pay on iPhone easily. However, it is important to note that any changes in the Apple Business Register might take up to 15 minutes to reflect. You can process transactions even after disconnecting your store as Tap to Pay on iPhone was earlier paired.

Availability in Other Regions

Replying to a query on Twitter, Shopify Support wrote, “Tap to Pay on iPhone is only available in the US, but we know it would be a great feature to bring to other regions around the globe. I’ll be sure to pass on feedback to the team regarding availability in the UK, so we can look to get this offered there!”

POS Go

Earlier, Shopify launched POS Go, an updated version of its point-of-sale (POS) system. POS Go is a handheld tool resembling smartphone and doesn’t need to be connected to a computer or mobile phone. POS Go will enable retailers to offer wireless checkout anywhere in the store. Shopify aims to establish a foothold in the hardware market with this new product.

POS Go will come with a card reader, inventory tracker and a built-in bar code scanner. Merchants will also be able to manage staff and payments irrespective where they are-online or store. Shopify POS Go app can be customised to manage store and provide better services to customers.
