Shopify has a proud ecosystem that works for the development of small business owners. The platform knows the value of small business entrepreneurs and always tries to keep their moral high with new features and acknowledgments alike.
Recently, Shopify took to Instagram to share a pie chart explaining what “a day as a small business owner” looks like. It captioned the pie chart: “raise your hand if this is you”.
The Instagram post was soon flooded with replies from small business owners. Zanan Zeeba, a Pakistani clothing brand, replied: “And waiting for Shopify Notification Sound of Purchase”.
Luxury rugs brand Rich class decor, which has its website based on Shopify joined in saying: “I wish more people supported small businesses”.

African inspired fashion brand Kahindo commented “everyday,” with a Shopify associate, Calli Grace, joining in saying: “Get some time back from order packing with the use of Shopify Fulfillment Network”. In her Instagram bio, Grace writes “making logistics better for everyone at @shopify”.
Reviving Business
Shopify is trying hard to come out of a struggling term. In the recent past, it suffered reoccurring losses and had to lay off 10 percent of its workforce, citing an overestimated “wrong bet” on e-commerce growth.
In the first half of 2022, Shopify saw a drastic drop in its merchant growth rate. According to YipitData, only 71,000 net merchants were added to Shopify in the first half of 2022. The number was 6,80,000 in the COVID-hit 2020, followed by 3,14,000 new merchants next year.
Shopify Earnings
The Canada-based e-commerce platform helps merchants set up online stores. It also provides them with a range of tools to ensure safe payment systems and quick delivery. In lieu of this service, Shopify earns a minimum monthly fee of $29 for the basic plan. However, Shopify has most of its hopes pin on the Plus subscriptions, which provides advanced tools to merchants for a minimum monthly fee of $2,000.
“Unless Shopify adds roughly twice as many merchants in the second half of 2022 as the first half, we estimate they could be on pace for the lowest net merchant additions in a year since at least 2018,” the YipitData study said.
Starter Plan
For those with money constraints, Shopify recently introduced a Starter Plan, which costs as low as the price of a chewing gum.
“What could you get for $5? A. Gum B. A hairbrush C. A roll of dimes or, D. you could start a business. Yep, you read that right. Our new Starter plan lets you get a business up and running for the same price as your local transit fare – with money to spare. There’s never been a better time to start experimenting with creating and selling,” Shopify said in a LinkedIn post.
